The Basics of Christianity …

Beginning on Sunday, April 23rd, 2016, Northeast Baptist Church of Southlake, Texas will be presenting a Sunday School series on the Basics of Christianity. If you, or any of your friends or family have ever wondered what this “Jesus Stuff” is all about, please join us at 10:00 AM as we explore:

• What it means to be saved,
• How to get right with God,
• How to know where you will go when you die,
• Why Jesus died on a cross,
• Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
• What now?

The material used is from a course put together by David Cloud, a missionary to Nepal and a preacher of God’s Word, the Holy Bible in churches in North America and Asia. Classes being taught by various young men of our church will cover all of the major tenets of the Basics of Christianity.

I think you would agree that we are living in a period of time witnessing rapid increases in knowledge, technology and science. We can see events and talk to people half way around the world within seconds! Engineers and scientists can split the atom for either terribly deestructive weapons or tremendously beneficial electrical energy. We also can travel from one side of the world to the other in less than a day. Such abilities never existed prior to the last century. Did you know that this was prophesied over 2,500 years ago in the Bible  (Dan 12:4)?

We are also living in a time of rapidly declining moral values. If you remember the 1950s or early 1960s, even though they were times with difficult issues to deal with, compared to today, they were a Golden Age of freedoms and morality. We find today an age of degradation to the point that men want to be women and women want to be men! This too was prophesied nearly 2,000 years ago by the Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 17:26-30 concerning what the world’s spiritual condition will be when He returns. And be sure of this, that Jesus Christ will one day return to this earth and judge it for its wickedness and rebellion, Acts 17:30-31. The moral decline is so great that it threatens and has already curtailed many of our Constitutional liberties in the United States, especially those guaranteed by the First Amendment concerning freedom of speech and freedom of religion. We still have the freedom to practice our religious beliefs in our churches, but outside of our churches it has begun to be threatened and curtailed. What is happening? What can we do? Should we just quietly accept it and go along with the crowd? We need not be overwhelmed, for these days were foretold by the Bible.

But the Bible is more than a book of Prophecy. It is that, but it is so much more. It is a Book, the only Book, that gives instruction for living your life in a proper relationship with:

• The God Who loves you,
• The God Who made you,
• The God Who gives you breathe,
• The God Who provides the things necessary for your physical life

But even more than that the Holy Bible tells the story of:

• Jesus, the one true God Who became a man,
• Jesus, Who lived a perfect life
• Jesus, Who was put to death and shed His blood to pay the debt we owed for our rebellion against God. (Romans 5:8)
